Dear CCBU members and friends,

2014 was a great year for CCBU! We presented new programs, expanded the Portuguese courses, offered the events our members love and created and presented an original exhibition about the 12 Stadiums 12 Cities of the World Cup for more than 3 months at the Coral Gables Museum. Check below our 2014 YEAR IN REVIEW.

2014 Programs:  The year in review

JANUARY 11 – DISCOVER BRAZIL THROUGH THE ARTS –

Artist Silvana Soriano and CCBU present an arts and Brazilian culture workshop for children 7-11, focusing on the city of NATAL, at the Key Biscayne Community Center.

JANUARY 15 – Opening reception of Warriors of Light – photographs by  Wanderson Marccio, at the Società Dante Alighieri Gallery.

FEBRUARY 18 – DESTINATION BRAZIL: South Region – First cooking class of the series focusing on Brazil’s regional culinary, with Chef Adriana Assemany, at ARAGON 101 store, in Coral Gables.

MARCH 14  –  BRAZILIAN MOVIE at the Key Biscayne Community Center.
CCBU with the collaboration of Inffinito Productions presents:  Bossa Nova, a romantic comedy directed by Bruno Barreto. Free event.

MARCH 15 -  “The Wire Spools & Magic of Bicycles” (Porto Alegre) – Based on the work of Iberê Camargo and Karin Lambrecht, students (ages 7-11) created in mixed media 4 images using different materials such as oil pastels, sumi and tissue paper, in a workshop created and led by Brazilian artist Silvana Soriano.
MARCH 18 - DESTINATION BRAZIL:  Southeast Region.  Second cooking class of the series focusing on Brazil’s regional cuisine, with Chef Adriana Assemany, at ARAGON 101 store, in Coral Gables.

APRIL  7  -   CELEBRATION OF BRAZILIAN PRESS AWARD: Happy hour at

Carol’s Cucina & Vino: members and friends celebrated CCBU’s   recognition as “Best Promoter of Brazilian Culture”. “Best Promoter of Brazilian Culture”

APRIL 10 -    BRAZILIAN MOVIE at the Key Biscayne Community Center.

CCBU presented the screening of “MORO NO BRASIL”, a fascinating documentary about Brazilian popular music genres. Free event.

APRIL 12 – “Less is More” (São Paulo) – Children ages 7-11 created collages using   principles of the Concretism movement (based no works of  Waldemar Cordeiro, Geraldo de Barros and Luiz Sacilotto) to create a    stop-motion animation, at the workshop created and led by Brazilian artist Silvana Soriano, at the Key Biscayne Community  Center. MAY 9    -   BRAZILIAN MOVIE at the Key Biscayne Community Center.

CCBU with the collaboration of Inffinito Productions presented:  the documentary,
“Margaret Mee and the Moonflower”. Free event

APRIL 12 -   Bahia Lunch at Carol’s Cucina & Vino, downtown Miami

May 17 -    “Experimenting in Art” (Rio de Janeiro), was the workshop proposed by artist Silvana Soriano for children ages 7-11, at the Key Biscayne Community Center. Based on the Neoconcretism Movement works of Lygia Clark, Helio Oiticica, Ligia Pape and Amilcar de Castro, students created objects or installations using diverse materials.
MAY 20 - DESTINATION BRAZIL:  Center-West Region.  Second cooking class of the series focusing on Brazil’s regional cuisine, with Chef Adriana Assemany, at ARAGON 101 store, in Coral Gables.

MAY 23 -  CONECTA :  “A chat with successful professional women who make a difference in Miami”.  Presented by CCBU with Aline Zamora, Erica Coelho and Vanessa Guimarães.

JUNE 5 -  12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES: Brazil 2014, World Soccer Destination.
VIP RECEPTION at the Coral Gables Museum.CCBU members were special guests. Brazilian reception by invitation only.

JUNE 6 –  Coral Gables Gallery Night – Public has free access to the exhibition

Panel with architects Sergio Coelho (Arena Pantanal), Fernando Balvedi (Estádio Beira-Rio) and journalist and promoter Rodrigo Prada, moderated by architect Alice Cimring . 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES. Free Event

JUNE 8 – ROBERTO DAMATTA’s TALK ABOUT SOCCER AND BRAZILIAN CULTURE – 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES: Brazil 2014, World Soccer Destination

The world renowned anthropologist talked about the role of soccer / futebol in Brazilian society. Fenwell Gallery, Coral Gables Museum. Free event.

JUNE 12 – WORLD CUP OPENING MATCH VIEWING EVENT, Brazil X Croatia.

The plaza outside the Coral Gables Museum was transformed in a mini soccer field and hundreds of soccer fans gathered to cheer and enjoy a Brazilian party.

Free event. 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES.

JUNE 17 – WORLD CUP MATCH VIEWING EVENT – Brazil X Mexico

Once again, the plaza outside the Coral Gables Museum was filed with hundreds of fans dressed in yellow and green. Free event. 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES.

AUGUST 9 – CURATOR’S TOUR OF 12 STADIUMS 12 CITES EXHIBITION for CCBU’s members and friends. Coral Gables Museum.

AUGUST 14 – SUMMER HAPPY HOUR CELEBRATING 2014 BRAFF

CCBU members and friends got together at Carol’s Cucina & Vino to meet and greet Viviane Spinelli, director of the 2014 Brazilian Film Festival Miami

AUGUST 23 -  CCBU PRESENTED THE FILM “Never Too Old To Meow” at the 2014 Brazil Film Festival Miami. Colony Theater, Miami Beach.

AUGUST 28 – MIXOLOGY MIXER: Understanding Cachaça and how to make a perfect caipirinha. Workshop presented by Daniele Perugini and the Cachaça Leblon team. Coral Gables Museum. 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES.

SEPTEMBER 4 – GENE DE SOUZA’s TALK at the Coral Gables Museum.

“Samba, Goal! Soccer and music in Brazil.

Free Event. 12 STADIUMS 12 CITIES.

SEPTEMBER 11 –  CONECTA LUNCH: “A chat about the American school system”.  Presented by CCBU with  Aline B.Zamora, Erica Castelo and Vanessa Guimarães.

OCTOBER 18 -   GUIDED TOUR OF THE BEATRIZ MILHAZES’ EXHIBITION.

A “members’ only” event:  the tour of the retrospective exhibition of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, at the Pérez Art Museum, guided by Nancy Katzoff. 

NOVEMBER 22 -  BRAZILIAN WRITER BETTY MILAN PARTICIPATES AT PANEL -  CCBU indicated Betty Milan to participate at the 31st Miami Book Fair International – Wolfson Campus

NOVEMBER 22 (Evening) – HAPPY HOUR WITH BETTY MILANCCBU invited members and friends to meet and greet Betty Milan at Books & Books, Coral  Gables.
