Before making his Carnegie Hall debut the following night, Zambujo will first present his exquisite talent to the South Florida audience at the delightfully intimate Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.

Portuguese fado sensation Antonio Zambujo grew up immersed in the classic rhythm of Portugal. As a teen he moved to Lisbon and joined the prestigious Clube de Fado in the Alfama district, the music's heartland. Zambujo has stepped into big shoes as fado's new heartthrob. He gained fame playing the part of Francisco Cruz, first husband of fado diva Amalia Rodrigues, in the smash hit musical Amália. Since his debut CD in 2002, he has toured internationally, and been awarded countless honors. He has recorded and performed with major Brazilian stars like Ivan Lins, Roberta Sá and Milton Nascimento. Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso, also a collaborator, praised the young singer: "I want to hear more and more often, go deeper. His music thrills and makes me cry."

“His tone is always intimate as he sings about solitude and lost love. The microphone is his ally. It picks up every nuance of his small yet utterly expressive voice: a high, clear, precise yet melting tenor that suggests both Mr. Marceneiro and, from across the Atlantic, the Brazilian songwriter Caetano Veloso.” - The New York Times

Direct from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and for one night only, this fierce young company will perform two works from their high energy repertory, featuring choreography by Artistic Director Sonia Destri Lie: Na Pista (On the dance floor) and ID: ENTIDADES (ID: Entities).

“The eight young men in this Brazilian hip-hop group are almost shocking in their individuality and physicality.” —Dance Magazine

Freely mixing urban street styles, social dances, and thought-provoking contemporary vocabulary, the audacious and dynamic Companhia Urbana de Dança unleashes startlingly new forms for a truly moving experience. Composed of eight immensely talented young men from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro on their first US tour, this poetic and explosive company stuns with stamina-testing solos and jaw-dropping group movement that defies the limits of physicality while retaining choreographic rigor. Alternately mesmerizing and rippling with adrenaline and raw energy, these two works conceived and choreographed by director Sonia Destri Lie explore the cultural roots of Brazil and the gritty life stories of the dancers themselves.
