2 NEW CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS
Brazilian Art Classes & Workshops
Discover Brazil through the arts!
for children Ages 5-12
at Key Biscayne Community Art Center

The Brazil-USA Cultural Center (CCBU) along with artist Silvana Soriano created the arts course for children. The classes aim to develop the visual language and enrich knowledge about Brazilian culture through a variety of creative experiences in art.

With the theme of the cities that will host the World Cup in Brazil, the course will be organized in modules. In each of the student will develop a project based on the artistic production of each region and addressing various languages​and artistic procedures such as drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture and installation. Objectives: 1.Show different graphic possibilities and use of materials and techniques in art. 2. Instigate creativity and enhance the look of the child. 3. Enrich knowledge about Brazilian culture.

Module 1 "Around the Modernism" (São Paulo)
3 classes: Sept. 06/ Sept. 13/ Sept. 20

Objective: To know the artistic production of Modernism in Brazil and its importance to art in our country. Students will create printmaking based on famous Brazilian Modernists: Tarsila do Amaral, Portinari,Ismael Nery, Di Cavalcanti, Lasar Segall and Anita Malfati.

Module 2  "Let's recycle!" (Curitiba)
3 classes: Sept.27/ Oct.4/ Oct.11

Oscar Niemeyer Museum and Sculpture Garden. Focus on the city of Curitiba (awarded the Globe Sustainable City Award) and the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, students will create sculptures in paper recycling technique of papier maché.

Module 3 "Festa do Reisado" (Natal)
3 classes Oct.18 Nov.1/Nov.15

Students will create puppets based on characters and elements of the popular festival “Festa do Reisado.”

Module 4 Cones, Cylinders and Spheres" (Fortaleza)
3 classes Nov.22/ Dec 6/ Dec.13

Objective: To know the artistic production of Brazilian sculptors Based on the work of sculptors Eduardo Frota and Sérvulo Esmeraldo, students will create sculptures using cardboard boxes, straw and other materials.

Module 5 "Sacred Art" (Belo Horizonte)
3 classes Jan 10/ Jan 24/ Jan 31

Based on the works of Aleijadinho, Brazil`s greatest Baroque Artist, students will create reliquaries.

Books & Books and the Centro Cultural Brasil-USA da Florida (Brazil-USA Cultural Center/CCBU) continue the yearlong cultural exploration of Brazil. Our series called CULTURAL CUP 2.0 will focus on the culture, traditions, arts, music and gastronomy of the twelve Host Cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the exciting worldwide soccer tournament that will happen in Brazil next year.

Our next stop is the city of
CUIABÁ

CUIABÁ, the capital of the State of Mato Grosso is situated in the geographic center of South America.

A former frontier boom town during the 18th. century gold rush, it is now again a lively place, one of Brazil’s fastest growing cities. Cuiabá is a good starting point for ecotourism excursions since it is located in the center of three spectacular biomas: the Pantanal, the Cerrado and the Amazon Forest. The Centro Cultural Brasil-USA da Florida invites you to discover and explore this 2014 FIFA World Cup Host City and its distinctive culture based on European and indigenous influences.
