Ann Helen Wainer's talk about her latest book "Jewish and Brazilian Connections to New York, India, and Ecology was the highlight of the Cultural Cup 2.0: Recife, on Wednesday, May 10 at Books & Books, Coral Gables.

The Brazilian attorney and author of several books, explored the fascinating Dutch Brazilian connection between Recife or Mauritsstad as it was known in the the mid 1600s when the city was the capital of Dutch Brazil and New York.

Ann Wainer's talk was preceded by a general presentation about the historic and vibrant city of Recife, capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco.

ENGLISH EDITION OF "1808" by LAURENTINO GOMES
will be launched early September


Laurentino Gomes

The English edition of "1808" by Laurentino Gomes will be available at the bookstores in the first week of September. The translation into English is by Professor Andrew Nevins, an University of London's linguist who is a visiting professor at UNICAMP as well.

Laurentino Gomes who is also the author of "1822" and will soon be publishing his latest book "1889", was invited by the Centro Cultural Brasil-USA to represent Brazil at the 2012 Miami Book Fair International.
