Teatro Prometeo Presenta una lectura dramatizada
Toda desnudez será castigada
Una noche con Nelson Rodrigues
Dirigida por Beatriz J. Rizk

The CULTURAL CUP is a yearlong program created by CCBU to explore the diversity and richness of the Brazilian culture through a “cultural tour” of the twelve Brazilian Host Cities of the 2014 Football World Cup. Each month, in partnership with the Miami Dade County Public Library System we present one these cities’ special characteristics, culture, history, music and art.

The COPA CULTURAL tour continues in
SALVADOR!

Saturday, Oct 20, from 11a.m. to 2pm
at the Key Biscayne Library
299 Crandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne, FL 33149

Due to its easygoing population and countless outdoor parties SALVADOR is known as the “land of happiness”. With its warm climate, perfect balance of ocean, rainforest and stunning cultural diversity Salvador da Bahia is a city that offers visitors an unforgettable authentic and exotic experience.

The city is known as the African soul of Brazil. Here the descendants of African slaves have preserved their cultural roots more than anywhere else in the New World, transforming them into thriving culinary, religious, musical, dance and martial arts traditions.

In Salvador you can bump into a capoeira circle (a martial art developed by the slaves of Bahia) or a drum corps pounding out samba reggae, you can munch acarajé (bean dumplings fried in dendê oil filled with dried shrimp, spiced manioc paste and sauces, which is still sold on the streets of Nigeria) and witness a Candomblé festival.

Join us as we explore the lush and tropical city of SALVADOR DA BAHIA, one of the twelve host cities of the football tournament. Taste the typical  treats prepared by the native of Salvador, Carlinhos Encarnação; learn about the history and the rich culture of this fascinating city as we dress a manequin with the typical Bahia costume. This is a fun and enriching program for all ages.

PROGRAM COPA CULTURAL: SALVADOR

11am – 11:30am:  AXÉ! (the Bahia salutation)– Welcome and tasting of typical Bahia food from Carlinhos Encarnação’s “tabuleiro” (tray) who will tell us about the secrets and traditions of the food from Bahia.

rose max
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Rose Max realized she had the gift of singing at a very early age. Everyone from her mother's side was a musician. She is the great-grand daughter of the conductor and composer CUPERTINO DE MENEZES and grand daughter of the guitar player and composer MANUEL DE MENEZES. Cupertino, also a flutist, was a band member of a "choro” group led by Callado Junior and Chiquinha Gonzaga, two of the most prominent musicians from this era. Manuel was partner - in music, adventures and "Bohemia - of the most important Brazilian composer in the early 30's - Noel Rosa.

Rose moved to Miami in October of 1993, where she has been continuing to grow and develop musically, and by keeping a constant performance schedule, she has become highly recognized in the Brazilian, Hispanic and American communities. She won the BRAZILIAN PRESS AWARD for the “Best Female Brazilian Singer Residing and Performing in the USA” in 1997, 1998 and 2001.
