How the program was created by the Miami Dade County Public Schools and the role of the Centro Cultural Brasil-USA, since the planning stage in 1999, with the Miami Dade County Public Schools, informing and educating the Brazilian community about the exceptional program that would complement the District’s bilingual offerings (the other programs were the Spanish, French, German and Italian).

After the school opened in 2003, CCBU continued its collaboration with the school, bringing enrichment programs like important Brazilian children’s literature authors, performers, storytellers, musicians.

This bilingual program proved to be an important tool to maintain the roots of Brazilian students who grow up in the region and a powerful instrument of Brazilian culture dissemination.

The historic ceremony had as its master of ceremonies Professor William Cortezia. The group of Portuguese teachers, recognized by Mrs. Garcia as her “Portuguese Powerhouse”, were enthusiastically applauded by the students dressed in yellow shirts decorated with the Brazilian colors.

The Portuguese International Parents Association, an association created in 2010 was represented by several of its Board members.
