The COPA CULTURAL tour continues in
RECIFE!

Saturday, March 10, from 1 to 3 p.m.
at the West Dade Regional Library
9445 Coral Way. Miami, FL 33165

The Centro Cultural Brasil-USA takes the COPA CULTURAL to RECIFE, the capital of the State of Pernambuco! Known as the "Brazilian Venice", the fifth largest metropolitan area in Brazil is not only an important industrial, educational and tourism center, it is also the home of important artists, musicians and writers. Come explore Recife’s unique and rich culture, its vibrant popular celebrations; and find out why this fascinating city was once called "New Amsterdam".

Enjoy an informal presentation about the rich musical landscape of Pernambuco with Gene de Souza, host of the award-winning radio show Café Brasil on 88.9FM WDNA. Discover the different and exciting styles of Recife music: frevo, maracatu and manguebeat.

Gene, who is also Development Director at the world music organization Rhythm Foundation, will introduce the sounds of SPOKFREVO Orquestra from Recife, the phenomenal 19 member band that is will be performing on March 17 at the Hollywood ArtsPark.

And watch a Maracatu percussion demonstration with Gil Santos and the Gil Samba Show percussionists! Supported by Contemporanea.

For the little ones: hands-on workshop of Carnaval masks and accessories. Have fun creating your own, unique "Recife carnaval accessory"!

“A DANGEROUSLY GORGEOUS DANCE ADVENTURE!” - Linda Winer, Newsday

Come Fly Away is the new Broadway musical valentine to the legend that is Frank Sinatra, fusing his unforgettable voice, with a sensational live band and the creative vision of Tony Award-winner TWYLA THARP (Movin' Out) into a musical spectacle that will make you believe Ol' Blue Eyes is right offstage, mike in hand!

15 of the world's best dancers tell the story of four couples falling in and out of love, as the audience experiences the exhilaration of a first kiss, the excitement of a first dance, and the bittersweet moments of a first good-bye in a world of sparkling romance and astonishing beauty.

Come Fly Away features a score of beloved Sinatra classics including "Fly Me to the Moon," "My Way," "New York, New York" and "Makin' Whoopee."

ADA MERRITT K-8 celebrated "Festa Junina", in March!

ada merrittfesta junina

Quadrilha, pescaria, brigadeiro, churrasco and typical costumes made the typical Brazilian Festa Junina at Ada Merritt K-8, on March 2, a big success!

Each year the parents of the Portuguese International Parents Association (PIPA), the Principal, teachers, students, and sponsors organize this party that not only raise much needed funds for school projects but promote Brazilian culture and traditions.

Ada Merritt K-8 is the only public school in Florida to offer an IB, dual language immersion Portuguese-English program. This program was created in 2003 by the Miami Dade County Public Schools and counts with the support of CCBU. The quality and success of this program is becoming a model for other initiatives.

Recently, a representative of the Bilingual Department of the Utah Public Schools visited Ada Merritt K-8 in order to learn about the curriculum and create a similar program in that state. read more from "MiamiHoje.com" here
