Brazilian art workshops

The Cultural Center Brazil-USA, along with Key Biscayne artist Silvana Soriano, are offering a series of 3 workshops for children focused on the art and culture of each of Brazil. The program intends to provide a variety of creative artistic experiences while promoting and enriching knowledge about Brazilian culture and language. Workshops will be taught in English. The workshop fee includes materials and take-home projects.

Member Fee $30 each
Non-Member Fee $36

Each Workshops take place in the Arts & Crafts Room

WORKSHOP 1:
Let's Play Carnival!
Monday, February 19 (public school holiday)
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Children will celebrate Carnival, the annual Brazilian festival which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. Using the theme of Noah's Ark, children will create masks and a float.

WORKSHOP 2:
Women's History Month Celebration

Saturday, March 10
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Children will learn about Lygia Clark (October 23, 1920 ñApril 25, 1988), a famous Brazilian artist best known for her painting and installation work. Based on her series "Critters", they will create a sculpture that moves.

WORKSHOP 3:
Let's Make Handmade Paper!

Saturday, April 14
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

To celebrate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, children will learn about the arts and crafts of native Brazilians and create handmade paper using plants, pigments and cotton.
