Mistura Fina
Brazz Dance Company - Mistura Fina

Saturday, March 12, 2011, 8pm

Mistura Fina is an entertaining, high energy, beautiful and moving work by Augusto Soledade, performed by one of Miami's leading contemporary dance companies. An intoxicating blend of Afro-Brazilian and contemporary dance, the work is one of the finest examples of Brazz Dance Company's strong and stirring repertory.

Although universal in scope, Mistura Fina is inspired by Soledade's native country, Brazil-its culture, literature and history.

This performance contains brief nudity.

the BRAZILIAN FILM Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within
At the Miami International Film Festival.
Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within Following the popular success of Elite Squad, which exposed many of the hardships of life in Rio's favelas in the late '90s (when they were teeming with violence and drug trafficking), expert filmmaker Jose Padilha moves ahead 13 years to present day Rio. Captain Nascimento (the talented and multi-faceted Wagner Moura) now faces a more pervasive and omnipresent enemy - the system of policy that pervades politics today and is ultimately responsible for the majority of societal ills that his squad of Elite police fight to end. Captain Nascimento now has a teenage son, a driving force in his desire to rid Rio of its violence and drugs. But what can one do against an elusive system, embodied by bureaucrats and politicians engaged in constant double-speak? Bold, powerful and ambitious, Elite Squad II is a realistic depiction of the many adversities that exist in the quest to realize a better world. - Diana Sanchez

"It can be said that the image of "Brazilian women" abroad is very different from the one we have in Brazil, as it is in most cases, full of prejudice and misunderstanding. Brazilian women in foreign countries are often labeled as "sexy woman, single and available, and good samba's dancer". However, women like the soldier Maria Quiteria, the modernist painter Pagu and the new president Dilma Roussef show us a different perspective of Brazilian women: fighter, intelligent and politicized."
Pietra Diwan.

In honor of the International Woman's Day, CCBU invites you to join the historian Pietra Diwan in a conversation to compare these two views on the Brazilian woman today, highlighting both her power of seduction as well as negotiation.
